Who the hell is Kate?

Updated: Oct 10, 2020

This was the question I asked myself today, when I was looking through some of the random stuff that happens to be in my (supposedly haunted) house. You'll be asking that question too, by the time you finish reading this post.

I had to follow up my post from earlier today with some weird finds.

Though it looks like most of the electrics were included with the renovation in ’09, I’m having some consistent inconsistencies with pretty much all of the light fixtures. It’s a hardly a flickering or anything that cliché, but there’s a definite pause every time I flick a light switch on. I’d be more likely to call it faulty wiring, and blame the delay on bad connections, except that I get the distinct sensation, when the light finally does come on, that it’s had to fight its way there. I don’t know. I could also swear that, a few times, the light has gone out a second before I’ve actually touched the switch, on my way out of the room. And that isn't even the weirdest thing to happen to me today.

While this house has a bunch of weird stuff in it, left by previous tenants, this one might just take proverbial cake. What started out as a simple tidying of cupboards, led to some very interesting(or weird??) discoveries. Basically, I was looking in a kitchen cupboard(Yunno to find a place to put away my dishes, aka: the whole dang reason kitchen cupboards were invented in the first place) WHEN I happened upon this treat:

Don't worry, that's not the weird part.

My initial thought was, "omg someone planted a bomb in this house!!" This idea was quickly dispelled with the lack of an ominous ticking noise coming from the odd package.

Naturally, I did what any sane person would do. I looked to see what was inside. And you'll NEVER guess what I found.

I know, I know. It's not like I found anyone severed finger or anything. However, it's not exactly normal to find a crumpled note, inside a cassette case, DUCT-TAPED closed. Whoever did this, clearly had some sort of reason. Obviously, I had to investigate. Good thing I'm one of those weirdo's that owns a Walkman(#vintage.)

So, I stick the cassette tape in, and listen to the sucker. At first it just plays dead air, but after a couple minutes I start to hear something. No, not something. Someone.

Every single track on the cassette is some sort of old-timey radio ad for Bonnidale. Yes, THAT Bonnidale. The Bonnidale where my house happens to be located. Turns out it must have been it's own town before the big city swallowed it up, as it has done with numerous towns in the area. And that's when I realized the cassette tape had writing on it. A small black triangle, just like the one I found taped to my door. Coincidence?

At this point, you can imagine I'm getting pretty creeped out. I don't know if it's ghosts or what, but something is definitely going on here. I made a call to the realtor, but all they could muster up was a weak "BonnidAle is old, all sorts of things have happened here..." Blah, blah, blah. I may need you help with this investigation, Fright Fam because this is starting to feel like I'm in over my head. I'm working on uploading some of the tracks, so you can have a listen. So far, I've managed to get the following recording off of the tape:

I'm getting scared. However, the thing that scares me the most is this:

So, anyone know a Kate? Maybe a Katherine? Possibly a Kat? No?

Happy Hunting.
